Updates & Reminders

I'm still on vacation (in Portland right now) but wanted to get out a couple of updates and reminders for the OO next Saturday. First, vacation is going great:

We have couple of new participants- Joe W. and Thorn…. (Thorn what is your last name, anyway? Yes, I've known you for like 4 or 5 years and yes this is embarrassing…)

But sadly, we may have a few would-be participants who may not be able to join and/or fully participate. In the Good-Excuse-But-Kind-Of-Spaceshot category, we have Aaron S., who realized that the 30th is his son's birthday. But Daren C. and Rick S. may have to cancel or reduce their participation for an entirely different reason, which brings me to my first reminder:

1) Don't crash before the OO. Darren cracked/bruised a couple ribs in Corner Canyon and Rick likely received a concussion (he Actually. Blacked. Out.) on a ride last week with the Wasatch Mountain Club. That's slightly better than a 10% casualty rate, and the OO hasn't even happened. So, as you ride this week, keep the rubber side down. Not like my cousin Phil (not to be confused with my brother Phil) with whom I rode last week in Berkeley:

Ouch.

2) Right now is a good time to do any last minute maintenance- not Friday night. Anything you want to do before the OO- new chain, replace fraying cable, etc.- do it early this week. Make sure there's still liquid sealant in your tires, and that your tubeless stem lock-rings are only finger-tight. Sandbagging is another activity that is best done before the big day.

3) Respond to the hootenanny post and tell me what you're bringing. Let's not have 15 bags of chips*…

*Unless they are Crunchy Cheetos.

Stay tuned for final updates later this week after I get home, including an Awesome Sticker Update. I'll also be posting a final participant list. (Which, BTW, would be a good time to tell me you're flaking, if you know, you're the flaky type…)

  3. Thorn Bickel is out. He has to work. I'm gonna try to escort you folks from the mouth of Millcreek on my road bike. If you can give me an ETA sometime during the ride Alex, that would be great.

  4. I'll be there. I may be bringing along another Rick S. to take the place of the injured Rick S. This one is younger, faster, and--if you can believe it--better looking than the original.

Also, I believe Rachel and Sue worked out the specifics of what Rachel will be bringing (and I will be taking credit for) to the hootenanny.

  5. Better looking than the original?? It's hard to believe such a thing is possible, but I will alert the neighborhood ladies!

  6. I am up for a segment 2 (because my name is Chris and it is almost my birthday) only. No excuses, I just want to. So if anyone is interested in shuttle up to PB (good rendezvous time?) let me know.

I will send out a bulk email as well and give out my email there.

    Cheers,

    Chris C
